Waco Plumbing Questions, Answered Straight

The things Waco homeowners, landlords, and renovators actually ask us — about the river, the water, the slabs, and the bill.

Waco's water

Where does Waco's drinking water come from?

Waco's tap water starts in the Brazos River basin: the city's primary source is Lake Waco, northwest of town, treated at the City of Waco's regional water treatment plant before it reaches homes. The City of Waco also supplies several surrounding communities — Woodway, Hewitt, Robinson, China Spring, Bellmead, Lacy-Lakeview, and West — from the same system, which is why your water can taste the same in Hewitt as it does near Baylor.

How hard is Waco's water, really?

Moderately hard to hard. Recent measurements around Waco generally land in the 6–10 grains-per-gallon range depending on the season and the blend coming out of the plant. It isn't the harshest water in Texas, but it's hard enough to shorten water heater life, crust up aerators, and spot your glassware — which is why we recommend annual water heater flushes here.

Is Waco's water safe to drink?

Yes — the City of Waco publishes an annual Consumer Confidence Report showing treated water meeting all EPA and TCEQ standards. Hardness and safety are different things; the minerals that make water "hard" are cosmetic and appliance issues, not health issues. If taste or odor bothers you, we can discuss filtration options.

Slab leaks & repipes

Why does Waco get so many slab leaks?

Three reasons stacked on top of each other: blackland clay soil that swells and shrinks seasonally, moderately hard water that corrodes copper from the inside, and a big stock of post-war homes with original copper under the slab — Wooded Acres, Brookview, and the Lake Air area especially. Any one is manageable; together they make early detection a smart habit.

Does homeowners insurance cover slab leak repair in Texas?

Often, yes — leak detection and the plumbing repair itself are commonly covered (damage to floors and walls sometimes is too; the pipe's original defect usually isn't). We document everything in adjuster-friendly format: detection readings, photos, moisture measurements, and the repair itself. We've worked with most carriers serving McLennan County.

PEX or copper for a Waco repipe?

For most Waco homes we recommend PEX-A. It resists the scale and pinhole corrosion that our 6–10 gpg water deals to copper, flexes with slab movement instead of cracking, and carries a 25-year manufacturer warranty. We install Type L copper when the situation calls for it and price both honestly.

How long does a whole-home repipe take?

Most 2-bath Waco homes finish in 1–2 working days, plus patch and paint. You typically keep water overnight. Historic-district homes with plaster and original finishes can take a day longer — we quote that time upfront, not as a surprise.

Rentals, renovations & pricing

Do you work with Baylor-area landlords and property managers?

Constantly — student-housing turnover is one of our specialties. We offer flat per-call pricing, photo documentation for owner files, priority scheduling around August and May turns, and volume rates when you batch units on one route.

Can you coordinate with a contractor on a Fixer Upper-style renovation?

Yes — renovation rough-in and repipes sequenced with your GC are a big part of our work near Castle Heights, the Austin Avenue corridor, and the Silos-adjacent blocks. We'll price from your plans or demo photos, schedule around cabinets and tile, and pass inspection the first time.

Do you charge a diagnostic or trip fee?

There's a service call fee for diagnosis, but if you approve the repair, we fold it into the job price — so you don't pay twice. Emergency visits are quoted by phone before we dispatch, including the emergency fee, so there's no sticker shock at midnight.

How fast can you get here?

Same-day for most of the Waco metro during business hours — often within a few hours. Emergencies jump the line. Outlying areas like China Spring and Crawford are usually next-day unless it's urgent.
